On Real World Technologies

Posted by jedai | Free Online Courses, Free Stuffs, Internet, Java, Programming, Sun Microsystems | Tuesday 23 September 2008 8:53 pm

I’m done taking the Real Word Technology course in the Sun Student Courses yesterday.  The course intended to lead its students to the basics of Java FX, NetBeans GUI, JRuby and Java ME programming.  I earned this certificate after completing its prerequisites.

It really is nice to have a free online learning course like Sun Student Courses. I enhanced my desktop application, JRuby and Java ME skills, learned and actually tried Java FX upon taking the course. Programming Java FX is really cool; I’m looking forward for its tools for easier development.

First impressions on Google Chrome

Posted by jedai | Free Stuffs, Google, Google Chrome, Internet | Wednesday 10 September 2008 8:11 am

At last, I already had the chance to try the famous Chrome for Windows. What can I say? I really can’t say anything about its usefulness on web application and programming part (because of its OS version) but I am really impressed. Download and installation and the importation of bookmarks, browsing history and other data from my other browsers into Chrome were swift. At first I thought it was like Opera but it’s just the welcome page. The opening of a new tab and downloading of a webpage is faster than MSIE and Firefox. The feature that I love the most is the “sand box” feature. I tried to force an error for the browser to crash but it didn’t, chrome just printed a result of the handled exception on the top of the web page.

Crashed Chrome Resolved Crash

It really excites me on the release of the Linux version of Chrome. I’d like to try it on our current web application project…but there’s a little bit of problem, it is another browser to worry about for page rendering…
